Teilhard, who didn't claim to be an artist, led an inspiring reflection for artists on human energy. Art, for man, becomes an object, the form taken by the excess energy that characterizes him. Much of this surplus is absorbed by science and philosophy. Art preserves the boiling primitive energy that expresses itself in nature.

It gives substance to man's anxieties, hopes and enthusiasms. 

It idealizes them, relying on intuition rather than reason.

It gives spiritual energy its first body and its first face. 

​

And he preserves the human specificity of this third function, personalizing it even more than any thinker or scientist.

Art thus represents the area of greatest advance around man's growing energy.
